Bolzano

Days 3 & 4

Our lodging was at the Stadt Hotel, right on the plaza.

Bolzano is a charming little town at the base of the Dolomite Mountains. It is unique because of its blend of Germanic and Italian cultures. It was fun for us because we knew some of both languages, mostly German.

For the hikers in the group, it was a real treat to explore the mountain trails. They got some beautiful pictures before the rain hit.

The plaza is beautifully landscaped, and is a great location for the festivals they hold annually. Apertivo was a wine tasting.

Most of the people on our tour bus took advantage of the many walking trails around Bolzano. While we knew we would miss some great photo opportunities, we chose to explore this quaint little town. Besides that, we would have had to get up early to catch the transportation, and there was rain in the forecast. We think we made the right decision. We got caught in the rain, but we were only a few steps away from our room.

Otzi, the Iceman was found in the Alps, just a short distance from Bolzano. He is being preserved in a cold cell at the South Tyrol Museum of Archaeology.

Once we knew what time the bus would arrive in Bolzano, we bought tickets for the show at the museum. We showed up prior to our reservation time, but we were allowed to enter right away. The exhibit was really amazing - a must see!

If there is a cat around, Linda will find it... or it will find her. We did not see a live cat in Bolzano, but did see this one outside of a small shop.
