It was raining when we left the hotel in Florence. Even in the rain, it was a beautiful drive. About 30 minutes south of Florence, we stopped at the Cemetery and Memorial which was liberated by the 6th South African Armored Division of the US Fifth Army. The Italian government granted its free use as a permanent burial ground forever without charge or taxation. It was a beautiful memorial, and very emotional, especially for Lee, having served in the military.
